Mitt Romney took Iowa Caucus Victory!

As Republicans came out to select their candidates, Tuesday night Iowa Caucus saw Mitt Romney coming out on top with 30,015 votes, ahead of Rick Santorum with 30,007 votes, a mere difference of 8 votes. Third was Ron Paul who got 26,219 votes.

 

Newt Gingrich was fourth with 16, 251, followed by Rick Perry who got 12, 604 votes and Michelle Bachman coming in sixth with 6,073 votes.

 

With 99.5% precincts reporting, none of the candidates got the 25% most thought would have been the case.  The top three were as followed: Romney cleared 24.6% of votes, Santorum 24.5% of the votes and Paul 21.5%.

 

The last time we saw this closeness in the Iowa caucus wasin 1980, when George Bush beat Ronald Reagan by two percentage points.

 

The race for Republican Presidential nomination heads out toNew Hampshire next, and then South Carolina on January 21st, followed by Florida on January 31st.

 

Right now, Romney is the favorite for New Hampshire; nonetheless, with the results in Iowa, one cannot count out Santorum whose campaign seemed to have stepped up their game this election season.
